The Story

(If images fail to load or zoom, refresh the page.)

The ageswap of Curseswap AU told exclusively through illustration, this thing is a beast of its own. 27-year-old Mob becomes 13-year-old Reigen's live-in nurse, observed suspiciously by Reigen's sister Youko, while Ritsu is convinced to take care of a poor little orphan ghostboy Mogami on Dimple's insistence.

Due to extenuating circumstances, this is a single dad AU about themes of found family, blood family, family that sucks, and feeling like you suck too much to have a family.

Cursekid AU is an ageswap of Curseswap AU.

You can learn all about Curseswap AU over on its page here. In brief, it's going to work a little different from most ageswaps. (If you didn't know ageswaps were a common mp100 fandom phenomenon, congrats on the adventure you will soon embark on.)

Heavily features Youko, the oc interpretation of Reigen's sister. Click here to learn more!

The concept art

Some design principles and a rough overview of how the world works.

The Setup

As an adult, Mob is more calm and stable but learned zero life lessons about being an esper, so when he is confronted with a kid who will stop dying if he’s really good at powers, he puts it all into it to validate unresolved feelings about his own abilities. He also mentors Serizawa in using his powers safely.

Mob’s relationship with Ritsu is actually pretty good, but they also almost never talk or interact. He’s become estranged from his family since he started living alone, and focusing 110% on Reigen has only made this more stark.

Teru arc

Youko finds it extremely suspicious how Mob doesn’t seem to have a reason to be so fixated on taking care of Reigen, so she recruits her favourite psychic (REAL)(NOT FAKE), Hanazawa Teruki, to investigate him. Teruki is a contact in the esper underworld (known collectively as "Claw"), and immediately kidnaps Reigen in order to bait Mob so he can test his mettle. This goes about as poorly for him as you can imagine.

Post Teru arc

Mob and Teruki have mutually apologized (for the kidnapping and the brutal assault), but Mob very very very obviously hates him more than anything. Teru gets recruited into Mezato Ichi's skeptic Mobtube channel where he lends his star power to confront shady psychics.

Because of Youko’s insistence on hanging around Teru, their paths keep crossing. They are cordial to one another but it’s very uncomfortable.

Claw arc

Mogami is abducted by a division of Claw, a many-armed underworld of espers who form into organized crime syndicates. It turns out this division is comprised of Claw gang leaders that have been defeated by Black Vinegar Middle Schooler Suzuki Touichirou, who has decided he is strong enough to overtake every esper in the city. Shou — someone who escaped that life a long time ago — hears how Mogami talks about Ritsu’s life lessons while investigating his son's movements, and recruits Ritsu in helping him flatten Claw to save Touchirou.

When Serizawa goes missing, Youko learns about Claw from Teruki, who assumes Claw must have gotten him somehow. She tells Reigen, who decides to go off on his own to find and rescue his fellow patient. Reigen has no psychic powers, so he recruits Mogami to lead the charge. Mogami leads the charge a little too well.

Mob is in close pursuit, and meets up with Shou & Ritsu to stop this once and for all.

Seperation arc

Serizawa’s newfound confidence with his power and Mob’s improving relationship with Ritsu means that it’s safe to leave Reigen alone for the first time in four years, giving Mob room to have his own life and hobbies. After Claw arc explored the hidden sides of the people he knows, Mob is inspired to open up to them in return.

He finally admits to Youko that he is not being #normal, he sees Reigen as a do-over in being a good older brother and controlling his powers, and he takes every obstacle extremely personally because it is in fact extremely personal to him that he succeeds. Newfound trust!

Learning Teru grew up being beaten up by adult gang members as a child has Mob re-assessing his behavior, and he finally acknowledges what he really needed to apologize for; brutalizing him was just punishing Teru for stressing him out, which was deeply cruel. Neutral relationship!

Now that they've attained some level of closure, Teru's dynamic with both Mob and Youko stableizes.

Eventually Mob admits to himself, though not to Ritsu, that as soon as he moved out he basically disowned himself out of anxiety. Completely unresolved!

So much closure. It sure would suck if his sole unspoken insecurity was exploited by an evil ghost

Mogami arc

Climax of the story. Reigen’s curse is unsealed, and he’s possessed by a second Mogami Keiji; the culmination of his living resentment. Mob is forced to counter his possession by entering Reigen’s mind, where it becomes clear Mogami has spent the past 40 years possessing the children of people with large amounts of spiritual power and draining them until they die while he “brings evil to justice”. And Mob is his new mark.

The curse-Mogami picks up on Mob’s entitlement over Reigen’s care and picks at it to make him even more entitled and protective in hopes of cutting Reigen off from his real parents (and the outside world), so Mogami can work in peace.

Reigen, Ritsu, and Mogami’s husk have to work together to save Reigen’s soul and stop an out-of-control Mob.

Shimazaki subplot

There is an entire storyline completely untethered from the rest of the canon about Minegishi and their beast of fucking burden.

Extra art

It turns out there are more things untethered to the main timeline than I thought.

Post Story

Mob becomes transgender.
